Ana Isabel Benites Mateos is affiliated with ETH Zurich's Department of Biochemical Engineering, focusing on sustainable biocatalytic processes. She holds a BSc in Biology from the University of Seville (2013), followed by a MSc in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology (2016). Her PhD (2019) at CICbiomaGUNE explored cell-free protein synthesis and enzyme immobilization. Postdoctoral research at the University of Nottingham (UK) and University of Bern (CH), supported by a SELF fellowship, concentrated on flow biocatalysis and pharmaceutical synthesis. In 2022, she managed an Innosuisse project on heterogeneous biocatalysts. Currently, her SNSF Ambizione grant (2023) enables independent research on extremozymes and extremocells for robust, sustainable biocatalysts.
Her research bridges biochemical engineering and sustainable chemistry, emphasizing industrial applications. Awards include the prestigious SNSF Ambizione grant and the SELF fellowship, reflecting her contributions to biocatalysis innovation.
