Ana Hortelão

Ana Hortelão serves as a Postdoctoral Researcher and Research Fellow at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), affiliated with the Bañobre Research Group.

Her educational background includes:

• BSc and MSc in Biology and Biophysics from the University of Minho
• PhD in Nanosciences from the University of Barcelona

Dr. Hortelão specializes in developing advanced drug delivery and theranostic systems through innovative nanomaterial engineering and surface modification techniques. Her work pioneers smart therapeutic vehicles designed for precise localized treatment, significantly enhancing drug efficacy while minimizing systemic side effects. This research bridges nanotechnology, biophysics, and clinical medicine to create next-generation solutions for targeted therapy.

Prior to her current role, she conducted research at globally recognized institutions including the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia, CNRS, and the Max Planck Institute. She also brings substantial industry experience in both scientific and leadership capacities, demonstrating translational expertise from fundamental research to practical applications.
