Manuel Bañobre-López

Dr. Manuel Bañobre-López leads the Nanomedicine Research Group at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL). He joined INL in 2011 as a Research Fellow, advanced to Staff Researcher (2013–2017), and has served as Research Group Leader since 2017. He holds a PhD in Solid State Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela and conducted research at the University of Texas at Austin.

Research Focus: Dr. Bañobre-López specializes in developing magnetic theranostic nanostructures for integrated diagnosis and therapy. His work spans:

• Engineering of smart nanomaterials for MRI contrast enhancement
• Magnetic hyperthermia for tumor ablation
• pH-responsive drug delivery systems
• Multifunctional platforms for cancer theranostics
• Nanocomposite optimization for biomedical applications

Publication Analysis: Recent articles (2016–2023) demonstrate a consistent evolution from fundamental magnetic material studies to advanced cancer nanomedicine. Key themes include nanoparticle interactions, hybrid nanoformulations, and translational applications for breast cancer and melanoma. His research integrates materials chemistry with preclinical validation.

Academic Leadership: Has co-supervised >50 MSc/PhD students and postdocs. Secured >€4M in funding as Principal Investigator for >30 projects from EU/national sources and industrial partnerships. Published >100 papers and 3 book chapters in nanomaterials and nanomedicine.
