Affiliations and Roles
Ana Gowrea is a Lecturer in Community and Public Health Nutrition at the School of Medical and Health Sciences, Edith Cowan University. She holds an Accredited Practising Dietitian certification and has over 20 years of experience in nutrition policy, campaigns, and programs across local, state, and national levels. Prior roles include Principal Nutrition Policy Officer at the Western Australian Department of Health and National Director of the Dietitians Association of Australia.
Professional Background
Ana’s career spans clinical, community, private practice, and research settings. She currently collaborates with the South Metropolitan Health Service’s health promotion team on maternal/child health and public health initiatives. Her leadership roles include Board Director (2004–2009) and WA Branch Chairperson (2001–2004) of the Dietitians Association of Australia.
Research Interests
Her work focuses on:
- Healthy food environments (built, natural, socio-cultural, economic)
- Food security and chronic disease prevention (e.g., obesity)
- National/state/local food and nutrition policies
