Dr. Ana Gal is Associate Professor of Teaching in the Department of English at the University of Memphis. She holds a B.A. (2005) and M.A. (2006) from Babes-Bolyai University (Romania), and a Ph.D. (2013) from the University of Memphis. Her research focuses on Nineteenth-Century British literature, Gothic traditions, and Cultural Studies, particularly examining representations of monstrous bodies in literature and media in relation to consumerism and market forces.
Her research interests span vampire narratives, feminist critiques of popular media, and cultural representations of gender and identity. She explores how Gothic motifs evolve across historical periods and media formats, connecting literary analysis with contemporary social issues like intersectional feminism and social justice.
Dr. Gal's publications predominantly analyze Gothic and vampire narratives through cultural theory lenses. Recent works demonstrate a shift toward pedagogical applications of Gothic literature, while earlier scholarship focused on deconstructing gender representations in Romantic poetry and graphic novel adaptations of classic horror texts.
In teaching, she emphasizes critical thinking and intellectual openness across courses including British Literature Since 1750, Vampire Studies, Composition, and Literary Heritage.
