Ana Cristina Perry is an Assistant Professor of Art History at Oberlin College, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a BA from Smith College (2012) and a PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center (2023). Her research focuses on performance, installation, and participatory practices by Latinx artists since the 1960s, with a current project examining Brooklyn-born Puerto Rican artist Raphael Montañez Ortiz and his contributions to alternative art spaces. She teaches courses such as 'Approaches to the Art of the Americas' and 'Collectives and Collaboration in Modern and Contemporary Art.'
Her work challenges traditional art historical narratives, emphasizing marginalized voices and decolonial frameworks. Perry has contributed essays to Smarthistory (2024), analyzing works by Freddy Rodríguez, María Magdalena Campos-Pons, and Raphael Montañez Ortiz. She also published an interview with Montañez Ortiz in The Brooklyn Rail (2022), exploring his interdisciplinary practice and institutional critiques. Her research has been supported by the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA).
Perry’s scholarship bridges art history with cultural studies, addressing themes like transnational identity, materiality, and the politics of representation. She actively engages with Latin American and Latinx art communities, advocating for inclusive museum practices through her writing and curatorial collaborations.
