Ana Clara Lopes Marques is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico (University of Lisbon). She leads the Technology Platform on Microencapsulation and Immobilization (TPMI), focusing on developing customized microcapsules and microscaffolds for diverse industrial applications. Her work integrates interdisciplinary research in chemical engineering, material science, and environmental sustainability.
She teaches courses such as Introduction to Materials Engineering and Polymeric Materials Technology, and actively supervises PhD and MSc students. Her research emphasizes sustainable technologies like eco-friendly adhesives, flame-resistant nanocomposites, and photocatalytic systems for wastewater purification. Collaborations include projects funded by FCT and international partnerships with institutions like ETH Zurich, University College Cork, and industry partners like SYMRISE SA and CABOPOL SA.
TPMI’s innovations address challenges in controlled chemical release, self-healing materials, and environmental applications. She has mentored over 20 graduate students and contributed to breakthrough technologies such as MICROSCAFS (mesoporous matrices for active compound entrapment).
Key projects include SOLAR2CLEAN (photocatalytic wastewater systems) and ECOBOND (eco-adhesives). Her group’s lab is based at CERENA, South Tower, Office 10.6.14 in Lisbon.
