Ana Côrtes

Ana Côrtes is a Researcher III at the University of Bergen's Centre for Research on Discretion and Paternalism, focusing on the project 'Child Protection Systems Across the World.' She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Coimbra, a Master’s in Law and Development from the Getulio Vargas Foundation, and a Bachelor’s in Law from the University of São Paulo. Her research interests include human rights, legal mobilization, gender, sexuality, and vulnerable groups.

Her work spans Brazil, Portugal, and Norway, with notable projects on LGBTQ rights recognition, water rights jurisprudence, and disability protections. Current projects include analyzing child protection systems globally and exploring land rights contestation in plural legal frameworks.

Publications highlight her focus on legal battles over sex education, judicial discrimination against transgender individuals, and the role of civil society in constitutional litigation. She is on parental leave until March 2025.
