معرفی
Ana Alexandre is a Researcher at the University of Algarve’s Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CCMAR) in Faro, Portugal. Her work focuses on seagrass ecophysiology, particularly addressing anthropogenic impacts such as nutrient pollution, ocean acidification, and climate change effects on seagrass systems. She investigates nitrogen metabolism in seagrasses, competition dynamics between seagrasses and seaweeds, and the role of organic nitrogen in coastal ecosystems.
- Key Projects:
- Conservation of seagrasses in Ria Formosa Natural Park (SeagConserve)
- Seagrass distribution and conservation in São Tomé and Príncipe (Seagrass STP)
- Climate change impacts on seagrass secondary metabolism (GRASSMET)
Her research emphasizes understanding how seagrasses respond to environmental stressors and their ecological roles as biofilters. Recent work explores marine heatwaves’ effects on seagrass functionality and the nitrogen uptake mechanisms of invasive species like Rugulopteryx okamurae.
She collaborates on interdisciplinary projects, including audio-visual tools to promote environmental conservation (Gamers4Nature). Her findings contribute to coastal management strategies and climate resilience planning.
