An Tang is a Full Professor at the Université de Montréal's Department of Radiology, Radiotherapy, and Nuclear Medicine, and Director of Abdominal Imaging at the CHUM Research Center. His research focuses on developing and translating imaging biomarkers for chronic liver diseases, including steatosis, fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. He uses modalities like MRI, ultrasound, and elastography to advance diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
His work is funded by major institutions including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Fonds de recherche du Québec en Santé (FRQS), and the Fondation de l'association des radiologistes du Québec (FARQ). He has held prestigious awards, including the CRCHUM Excellence Award in Research (2019).
Key projects include quantitative ultrasound for liver cancer detection, AI-driven imaging analysis, and federated learning platforms for healthcare data (e.g., CODA). He collaborates extensively with teams in radiology, engineering, and oncology, leading studies on liver imaging standards (LI-RADS) and treatment response assessment.
He has supervised multiple PhD and Master's students, focusing on topics like ultrasound-based diagnosis and cost-effectiveness analyses of imaging modalities. His research bridges engineering innovations with clinical practice, emphasizing reproducibility and translational impact.
