Dr. Challú’s research explores the intersection of economic development with biological well-being, particularly through anthropometric history (using physical height as a welfare metric). His projects span colonial grain markets, urban labor inequality, and democratic regime impacts on health outcomes in Latin America.
Recent publications examine long-term trends in Mexico City’s wage inequality, democratic transitions (1950-2000), and applied history for cultural heritage preservation. He has secured grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and Ohio Humanities Council for initiatives like the Black Swamp Project and Pedagogy from Crisis.
As Department Chair, he leads curricular innovation while collaborating with scholars across Europe, Latin America, and the United States. His work has been featured in podcasts (Social Distances, BG Ideas) and regional media like 13 ABC.
