Dr Amy Winship is a Senior Research Fellow and Group Leader in reproductive biology at Monash University's Biomedicine Discovery Institute. She holds the Rebecca Cooper Foundation Al & Val Rosenstrauss Fellowship. Her research focuses on fertility preservation, reproductive toxicity of cancer therapies, and uterine health. She obtained her PhD in 2016 from the Hudson Institute of Medical Research, studying cytokine functions in reproductive cancers.
Her current work identifies ovarian and uterine damage caused by immunotherapies (e.g., checkpoint inhibitors) and PARP inhibitors. Notably, her team discovered radiotherapy's direct uterine damage, leading to new clinical guidelines. She also investigates DNA repair mechanisms in oocytes, particularly BRCA1 mutations' impact on fertility in cancer survivors.
Winship has led multiple projects funded by organizations like the National Breast Cancer Foundation. She has received 26 awards, including travel fellowships and research grants. Her research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and gender equality.
Key projects include studying uterine contributions to pregnancy establishment, mitigating immunotherapy's reproductive side effects, and defining impacts of precision breast cancer treatments.
