Amy Ruopp is the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Chair, and Assistant Professor of Art Education at the College for Creative Studies (CCS) in Detroit. She holds a Ph.D. and EDS from the University of Missouri, MAT and BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and a Qualitative Research Certificate from the University of Missouri. Her research focuses on the interconnected identities of artist, researcher, and teacher, using Feminist New Materialism Theories and a/r/tography as methodologies. Key themes include making artistic learning visible, innovative visual research methods, and creative data visualization. She has over 25 years of K-12 teaching experience across urban, rural, public, and charter schools, and maintains an active artistic practice with exhibitions and curated shows.
Ruopp’s work bridges artistic practice and education, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches. She consults on curriculum design and actively presents research at conferences like the International Congress for Qualitative Inquiry and National Art Education Association. Her publications include Portrait of an A/R/Tographer and a forthcoming book with Routledge. Exhibitions include What Does Art Do? (Montminy Art Gallery) and The Artistry of Teaching (Bingham Gallery).
Her research explores intersections between art-making, teaching, and scholarship, advocating for holistic paradigms in education. Current projects include a book on mentorship and a/r/tography, reflecting her commitment to innovative educational methodologies.
