Amy Nivette

Amy Nivette is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences at Utrecht University (Netherlands). She holds research affiliations with the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement (NSCR), the Violence Research Centre at the University of Cambridge, and the Zurich Project on Social Development (z-proso). Her work focuses on police legitimacy, legal cynicism, violent extremism, and life course criminology.

• Education: PhD in Criminology (2012), M.Phil in Criminological Research (2009) from University of Cambridge, B.Sc. in Justice Studies (2008) from University of Idaho.

Her recent research includes NWO-funded studies on police legitimacy and violent behavior, global analyses of COVID-19 lockdown impacts on crime, and collaborations across Asia, Brazil, Switzerland, and Australia. Publications span experimental criminology, comparative crime data, and youth development.
