Amy N. Heuman

Amy N. Heuman is a Professor and Associate Department Chair in the Department of Communication Studies at Texas Tech University’s College of Media & Communication. Her research focuses on intercultural communication, gender studies, and cultural identity negotiations, particularly in marginalized communities such as the Latinx populations in the Rio Grande Valley, TX colonias. She emphasizes critical and feminist lenses to explore intersections of race, ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality.

Dr. Heuman holds a Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University, an M.A. from Western Michigan University, and a B.A. from Spring Arbor University. She has received notable awards, including the Integrated Scholar Award (2018) and the Outreach Award (2017). Her leadership roles include serving on editorial boards for the Southern Communication Journal and Communication Teacher, and as Associate Editor for Communication Studies.

Her teaching spans graduate and undergraduate courses, including Communication Theories, Intercultural Communication, and Feminist Thought. She actively contributes to initiatives like the Women Faculty Writing Program, promoting academic support for women faculty.
