Dr. Amy Marshall is a Senior Research Fellow at Flinders University holding multiple appointments across academic units. She is primarily affiliated with the College of Medicine and Public Health, serves as an Associate Member in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences within the Caring Futures Institute, and is a Full Member of the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute. Her research focuses on co-designing culturally safe healthcare solutions with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through decolonizing approaches to healthcare systems implementation.
Dr. Marshall's educational background includes:
- PhD in Nursing from the University of Adelaide (2015)
- Master of Arts in Sociology from Flinders University (2007)
- Bachelor of Arts (Honors) from Flinders University (2002)
Her research centers on health equity, family and domestic violence, person-centered care, and implementation science. Dr. Marshall employs co-design and co-production methodologies with a feminist and critical research perspective. She specializes in strengths-based and trauma-informed research, with particular emphasis on health sector responses to violence against women and healthcare experiences of marginalized populations, including older adults, people with disability, and Indigenous communities.
Dr. Marshall's publication record demonstrates a clear evolution toward aged care innovation and implementation research, with recent work examining how to effectively engage diverse and marginalized groups in healthcare system improvements. Her scholarly output shows increasing focus on practical implementation strategies and co-design methodologies to address health equity issues across multiple vulnerable populations.
Dr. Marshall has served as an Associate Lecturer, Postdoctoral Research Associate, and Professional Research Assistant at the University of Adelaide between 2015-2022. Her supervisory interests include family violence and the health system, feminist theory and methodology, community health, evidence-based implementation, and applied policy research on disability and gender.
She is an active member of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Public Health Research Team, where she works to transform healthcare systems through decolonizing approaches, culturally safe practices, and co-designed solutions that center community voices and expertise.
