Amy Knight is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, Department of Neurology, with concurrent appointments as Assistant Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences - Psychology. Her research focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), brain imaging, and cognitive-affective dysfunction following trauma exposure.

Her research explores hippocampal and white matter changes after trauma, using MRI and fMRI to study PTSD pathophysiology. Key subfields include fear conditioning, neural networks, and neurochemical biomarkers. She teaches Human Neuropsychology (PY720) and mentors graduate students across multiple committees.
Recent publications examine trauma’s acute effects on brain structure and function. Notable grants include funding from the National Institute on Aging/NIH/DHHS and the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation for clinical care pathways in functional neurological disorders.
