Amy Handlan is the Yang Family Assistant Professor of Economics at Brown University since 2021. She specializes in applied macroeconomics, focusing on monetary economics and integrating machine learning and text analysis methods. Her research quantifies the impact of monetary policy announcements on asset prices and investor expectations. Currently on sabbatical (2024-2025), she will visit UC Berkeley and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis in 2025.
Education: PhD and MA in Economics from the University of Minnesota (2021), BA in Economics from George Mason University (2015). She previously worked at the Federal Reserve Banks of Chicago and Minneapolis during her graduate studies.
Research interests include monetary policy communication, financial economics, and neural network applications in economic analysis. Her work combines quantitative methods with textual data to explore macroeconomic phenomena.
Teaching highlights include courses on Intermediate Macroeconomics, Machine Learning in Economics, and graduate workshops.
