Amy Frappier is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Skidmore College, where she also serves as Department Chair. She is the Scientific Director of the Stable Isotope and Paleoclimate Analysis Laboratory (SPA Lab), leading innovative research in paleoclimatology and hurricane-climate interactions.
- Ph.D., Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of New Hampshire (2006)
- M.S., Earth System Science-Geochemical Systems, University of New Hampshire (2002)
- B.S., Geological Sciences, University of Maine at Orono (1999)
Research Interests focus on reconstructing past climates using speleothems, stable isotope geochemistry, and understanding tropical storm impacts on ancient and modern societies. Her work bridges geological analysis with climate modeling and archaeological studies.
Publications highlight trends in tropical cyclone migration, volcanic ash event detection, Devonian isotope stratigraphy, and Maya civilization climate hazards. Articles span 2002–2025, emphasizing interdisciplinary methodologies.
- Scientific Awards: Charles Lubin Family Professorship for Women in Science (2009–15)
Advising includes mentoring 11 thesis students (8 at Skidmore, 3 at Boston College) on topics like stalagmite stratigraphy, carbon isotopes, and tropical cyclone reconstructions. Grants include European Research Council funding for hurricane-climate research and NSF instrumentation grants for SPA Lab development.
