Amy Dru Stanley is an Associate Professor of History, Law, and the College at the University of Chicago. She also serves as an Associate Faculty Member at the Law School and participates in the Faculty Board of Law, Letters, and Society. Holding a PhD from Yale University (1990), her research focuses on American legal history, political economy, slavery and emancipation, gender studies, and intellectual history.
Her work bridges historical scholarship with contemporary discourse, appearing in academic journals like the American Historical Review and public outlets such as New York Times and Washington Post. Notable achievements include the Quantrell Award for teaching excellence and leading the 2018 Pulitzer Prize jury for history. She has authored influential books such as From Bondage to Contract (1998), which earned multiple prestigious awards.
