Amy Bree Becker is a Professor in the Department of Communication and Media at Loyola University Maryland. She previously held roles as Associate Professor (2018–2022) and Assistant Professor (2014–2018) at Loyola, and Assistant Professor at Towson University (2010–2014). Her research focuses on political entertainment, comedy, science communication, and youth political engagement. She teaches courses such as CM203: Introduction to Communication, CM368: Entertainment, Media and Politics, and ME770: Social Network Analysis.
Her research explores how political comedy and satire influence public opinion, civic engagement, and media consumption. Key areas include the impact of late-night comedy, celebrity advocacy, and the role of humor in science communication. Becker has published extensively on topics like political satire’s effect on voter behavior, the intersection of media and public health, and the evolution of political discourse in hybrid media environments.
Becker’s scholarly contributions include co-editing Political Humor in a Changing Media Landscape: A New Generation of Research (2018) and authoring over 50 peer-reviewed articles. She has received accolades such as the 2023 Distinguished Scholar of the Year at Loyola and multiple conference paper awards.
