معرفی
Dr. Amy Bottomley is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) within the Australian Institute for Microbiology and Infection, part of the ithree Institute and Faculty of Science. Her research focuses on bacterial cell division mechanisms, antibiotic resistance, and advanced microscopy techniques. She holds a PhD from the University of Sheffield (2011) and has conducted postdoctoral research at UTS since 2012. Dr. Bottomley co-leads the Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Master's subject and supervises students in microbiology and imaging disciplines. She is also an advocate for gender equity in STEM, serving on UTS’s Equity and Diversity Committee.
Her work combines molecular cell biology, fluorescence microscopy, and protein chemistry to study bacterial survival strategies, including cell division regulation during infection and nutrient stress. Notable contributions include identifying cell division inhibitors in Staphylococcus aureus and elucidating mechanisms of antibiotic resistance. She collaborates on projects like expansion microscopy pipelines and FAIR data principles for imaging.
- Education: BSc (Hons) Microbiology (University of Glasgow, 2007); PhD (University of Sheffield, 2011); Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics (Deakin University, 2021).
- Grants: Includes leadership in the ARC-funded 'The Wonderful, Fluorescent, Massive World of Tiny Invisible Things' and UTS Collaboration grants.
- Service: Organizes STEM outreach events, chairs conferences (e.g., ComBio 2018), and reviews grant applications.
Dr. Bottomley’s lab supports cutting-edge imaging via the Microbial Imaging Facility, providing expertise in 3D-structured illumination microscopy and data management. Her research bridges fundamental biology with translational applications, such as developing novel antibacterial agents and understanding host-pathogen interactions.
