Dr Amy Bestman is an early-career public health researcher and faculty member at the University of Wollongong, where she serves as the Academic Program Coordinator for the Master of Public Health. With over a decade of experience, her work focuses on translating evidence into practice in the areas of gambling harm prevention, alcohol harm reduction, violence and injury prevention, and global health.

Research Interests:
Dr Bestman's research is centered on public health interventions that address gambling harm, alcohol-related harm, and injury prevention, particularly among vulnerable populations. She is deeply engaged in evidence-based policy development and has contributed to global health initiatives through her role as a technical consultant for the World Health Organization (Western Pacific) from 2020–2024. Her work includes coordinating the Global Status Reports on Road Safety (2021–22) and Drowning Prevention (2023).
Publications:
Dr Bestman has an extensive publication record, with over 40 peer-reviewed articles. Her recent work includes systematic reviews on adolescent violence prevention, digital interventions for infant fall prevention, and feasibility studies on gambling harm screening in community settings. Her research spans systematic reviews, qualitative studies, and policy-oriented analyses.

Supervision & Teaching:
She is currently co-supervising a PhD project focused on family-based physical activity interventions in South Western Sydney and plays a central role in coordinating the Master of Public Health program at the University of Wollongong.
