Amy Bellmore is a Professor of Human Development in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on adolescent peer relationships, social media use, and bullying prevention, with a particular emphasis on ethnic diversity and school environments. She collaborates with Wisconsin public schools to promote adolescent welfare. Bellmore earned her PhD in Developmental Psychology from the University of Connecticut (2001), MA from the same institution (2000), and BA in Psychology from UC San Diego (1994).
Her research interests include understanding how adolescents navigate social relationships online, the impact of ethnic diversity on school climates, and interventions to reduce bullying. The PRESM Lab (Peer Relationships, Ethnicity, Schools, and Media Lab), led by Bellmore, investigates these themes through mixed-methods approaches. Recent work examines cyber victimization, social media’s role in mental health, and cross-cultural comparisons of bullying experiences.
Key publications explore topics such as bullying prevention program effectiveness, social media’s link to internalizing symptoms, and the utility of latent class analysis in studying youth coping strategies. Bellmore’s contributions bridge academic research with practical school-based interventions, emphasizing inclusive environments and digital-age challenges.
