Amy B. Bridges

Amy B. Bridges is a Professor of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego. Her research focuses on urban politics, political history, and constitutional development, with a particular emphasis on the Western United States. She has authored seminal works such as A City in the Republic (1984) and Morning Glories (1997), the latter of which won two major awards. Currently, she is working on a book analyzing the founding constitutions of Western states, titled Western Window.

Bridges has held editorial roles at Politics & Society, Urban Affairs Review, and other journals. Her scholarship has been supported by fellowships from the ACLS and NEH. Her work bridges political science and history, emphasizing under-researched aspects of Western U.S. political development.

Her research interests include municipal reform, urban citizenship, and the institutional roots of local governance. She has co-edited volumes on topics like the historical and political foundations of Western state constitutions and the role of public policy in urban contexts.
