Amy Arnold is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics at Pennsylvania State University. Her research focuses on the brain's role in regulating blood pressure and energy balance, particularly through angiotensin-(1-7) mechanisms in cardiometabolic diseases like obesity and hypertension. She also investigates therapeutic strategies for autonomic disorders such as postural tachycardia syndrome and Parkinson’s disease.
Education:
- PhD in Physiology and Pharmacology, Wake Forest University (2009)
- MS in Clinical Investigation, Vanderbilt University (2014)
- BS in Biochemistry, Pacific University (2004)
Research Interests: Dr. Arnold’s lab uses mouse models and translational studies to explore angiotensin-(1-7)’s effects on insulin sensitivity, autonomic function, and cardiovascular health. Key areas include molecular mechanisms in adipose tissue and brain, gender differences in metabolic disorders, and cognitive dysfunction in autonomic failure patients.
Grants & Projects:
- NIH-funded studies on angiotensin-(1-7) in obesity hypertension (2024–2026)
- Research on hypothalamic blood pressure control (2021–2026)
Awards: Notable honors include the 2021 Junior Faculty Teaching Award and the 2018 Outstanding Early Career Development Award.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Penn State Neuroscience Institute and the Center for Cannabis and Natural Product Pharmaceuticals. Active in editorial roles for journals like American Journal of Hypertension and Physiological Genomics.
