Dr. Amrit Bart is a Professor in the Department of Animal and Dairy Science at the University of Georgia (UGA), affiliated with the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. He holds roles as Assistant Dean and Director of Global Programs, and previously served as a USDA National Program Leader for Aquaculture and International Programs. His expertise spans aquaculture, aquatic sciences, and genetic conservation, with a focus on global food systems integration.
- Education: B.A. Biology (Earlham College), M.Sc. Fish Genetics & Ph.D. Aquaculture (Auburn University), postdoc at University of Maryland’s Center of Marine Biotechnology.
Research interests include fish reproduction, cryopreservation of aquatic genetic resources, ultrasound applications in embryology, and sustainable aquaculture systems. He leads projects in climate-resilient aquaponics, integrated rice-fish farming, and aquaculture development in Africa, Asia, and Nepal.
Notable awards include the 2017 Richard F. Reiff Internationalization Award for contributions to UGA’s global initiatives. His grants focus on scaling aquaculture in developing nations and enhancing food security through integrated systems. Supervised dozens of graduate students globally.
