Dr. Amoneeta Beckstein is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Fort Lewis College in Colorado, where he teaches courses including Psychology of Sleep, Psychology of Addictions, Multicultural Counseling, and Native American Psychology. He also serves as a clinical supervisor in the counseling psychology program at Assumption University Thailand. Dr. Beckstein is an indigenous, multicultural, positive psychologist with a unique heritage—his mother is Jewish Israeli and his father is Aniyunwiya from the Anigilohi clan.
Dr. Beckstein's research focuses on mindfulness, emerging adults, peace psychology, addictions psychology, positive psychology, BIPOC mental health, international perspectives, pandemic effects on mental health, multicultural counseling, Indigenous/Native American psychology, and leadership development for underrepresented groups. His work often explores the intersection of traditional Indigenous knowledge with contemporary psychological practices, particularly examining Native American subjective happiness, self-construal, and decision-making. He has conducted extensive research on the mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic across diverse cultural contexts.
His most recent publications reveal a strong focus on applying mindfulness techniques in educational and therapeutic settings, addressing pandemic-related mental health challenges globally, and exploring Indigenous leadership models that could benefit global leaders working in collectivist contexts. His research demonstrates a clear pattern of bridging Western psychological frameworks with Indigenous knowledge systems to develop culturally responsive mental health approaches.

As a counseling psychologist and educator, Dr. Beckstein supervises and trains counseling students while conducting therapy and research. His professional affiliations include the American Psychological Association, Society of Indian Psychologists, Tomorrow People Organization (Scientific Committee), The Counseling Psychologist (Editorial Board Member), and Southeast Asia Psychology Journal (Editor). Prior to joining Fort Lewis College, he served as Counseling Center Director and psychology faculty member at Webster University Thailand from 2017-2021. Dr. Beckstein is also an author, slam poet, and ethical influencer who advocates for decolonizing psychology and positive mental health practices.
