Amol Pavangadkar serves as a Professor of Practice and Senior Teaching Specialist in the Department of Journalism at Michigan State University's School of Journalism. An Emmy-nominated filmmaker, he produces impactful media projects for federal agencies and international partners addressing critical societal issues including veteran PTSD, human trafficking, and climate change communication.
His research centers on socially engaged journalism and media production with emphasis on:
- Trauma-informed storytelling for law enforcement training
- Public health communication (nutrition, pandemic response)
- Community dialogue through documentary
- Food systems innovation in global contexts
- DEI implementation in media organizations
- Transnational media partnerships
Dr. Pavangadkar's award portfolio includes the Michigan Association of Broadcasters' Best in Show, Adams Teaching Fellowship, and India's Balgandharva Puraskar, recognizing both creative excellence and pedagogical innovation.
He mentors students in producing award-winning work (student Emmys, Addys) and has secured major funding from NSF, NIH, US Department of Justice, and USAID. His leadership extends to designing MSU's first film production study abroad program in India and establishing university partnerships across South Asia.
