Dr Amna Khan is a Senior Lecturer in Consumer Behaviour and Retailing at the Manchester Metropolitan University Business School. Her research focuses on consumer behavior, retailing strategies, and the intersection of ethnicity, religion, and consumption practices. She holds a PhD from Alliance Manchester Business School, supported by a corporate scholarship from AstraZeneca.
Education: PhD in Marketing (corporate scholarship, AstraZeneca), Master’s in Marketing (Alliance Manchester Business School).
Research Interests:
- Consumer decision-making and retail dynamics
- Ethnic minority consumer behavior
- Religious consumption (e.g., Muslim consumer practices)
- High-street retail trends and sustainability
Media Engagements: Over 200 appearances on BBC, ITV, Channel 5, and The Conversation, analyzing retail brands like Tesco, Primark, and Aldi. Key topics include post-pandemic shopping trends and consumer loyalty programs.
Awards: British Champion Powerlifter 2022 and record deadlift holder (158kg at 52kg body weight).
Advising & Grants: Supervised 20+ PhD and postgraduate projects, including work on advertising incongruity and health risk modeling. Served as a DBA external examiner.
Labs/Teams: Leading EDI initiatives at Pro Manchester (Co-chair of EDI; Chair of RERB), focusing on inclusive leadership and mentoring South Asian students.
