Missouri University of Science and Technologyمعرفی
Dr. Amitava Choudhury is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Missouri University of Science and Technology. He maintains his office in Schrenk Hall and has established himself as a prominent researcher in materials chemistry with particular focus on energy storage applications.
Dr. Choudhury's educational background includes:
- B.Sc (Chemistry honors) from A.C. College (Science and Arts)
- M.Sc in Chemistry (Inorganic Specialization) from University of North Bengal, Siliguri, India
- PhD in Inorganic and Materials Chemistry from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India
- Post-doctoral fellowship at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, USA (2004-2008)
His research program centers on energy generation, storage and conversion with emphasis on sustainable catalysis and critical elements. Dr. Choudhury specializes in solid state synthesis of materials including both oxides and non-oxides, with targeted materials comprising polyanion based compounds (phosphates, sulfates, phosphites, boro-phosphates), complex chalcogenides, and various porous materials. His laboratory employs advanced characterization techniques including X-ray crystallography (both single-crystal and powder diffraction) and multiple spectroscopic methods to investigate properties such as solid state electrochemistry for battery applications, magnetic behavior, electronic structures, thermoelectric properties, and catalytic activity.
Dr. Choudhury's research group has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, with recent work focusing on novel cathode and anode materials for lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries, crystal structure prediction methods, and nitrene-transfer chemistry for organic synthesis. His publications demonstrate a strong trend toward developing sustainable energy storage solutions with particular attention to materials exhibiting high capacity, long cycle life, and efficient ion transport mechanisms.
Dr. Choudhury's research has been supported by multiple funding sources including the National Science Foundation (SSMC-DMR), American Chemical Society's Petroleum Research Fund, University of Missouri Research Board, and various research centers at Missouri S&T. His laboratory maintains active collaborations with synchrotron facilities for advanced X-ray characterization of novel materials.
Dr. Choudhury leads a dynamic research group focused on the discovery and development of next-generation materials for energy applications. His laboratory features specialized equipment for solid-state synthesis under controlled atmospheres, electrochemical testing cells for battery evaluation, and access to advanced characterization facilities including X-ray diffraction and spectroscopy instruments.
