Amit Sheth

Dr. Amit Sheth is the Founding Director of the Artificial Intelligence Institute and a Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of South Carolina. He holds joint appointments across multiple colleges and leads groundbreaking research in knowledge-enhanced computing.

Education includes a B.E. (Hons) from BITS Pilani, India, and M.S./Ph.D. from Ohio State University. His research transforms AI through knowledge-infused approaches across healthcare, social good, and industrial applications.

Research interests focus on semantic, cognitive, and perceptual computing with applications in knowledge graphs, NLP, neuro-symbolic AI, and conversational systems. Recent publications demonstrate strong emphasis on multimodal learning, healthcare diagnostics, industrial AI systems, and neurosymbolic reasoning frameworks.

Award highlights include IEEE W. Wallace McDowell Award (2023), ACM/AAAS/AAAI/IEEE Fellowships, and Ohio State Distinguished Alumni Award. Leadership spans founding multiple research centers (Kno.e.sis, AIISC) and companies commercializing university research.
