Amit S. Jariwala is the Director of Design, Innovation, and Experiential Learning at the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology. He leads interdisciplinary initiatives embedding entrepreneurial and hands-on learning into the academic curriculum, including courses like Interdisciplinary Capstone Design and Sophomore Design. As a Woodruff School Teaching Fellow, he focuses on enhancing education through collaborative, real-world problem-solving. He oversees makerspaces and design-build courses, cultivates industry partnerships, and directs the Georgia Tech Capstone Design Expo, one of the nation’s largest student showcases.
Education: Ph.D., Georgia Tech (2013); M.Tech., IIT Mumbai (2007); B.E., Mumbai University (2005).
Research interests span design, advanced manufacturing, and evidence-based engineering education. He leads projects funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, NSF, and industry. His MATRIX VIP team develops intelligent systems for makerspace management. He advises the Flowers Invention Studio, a student-run makerspace.
Awards include the 2024 Georgia Tech Excellence Award, 2023 Jim Pope Fellowship, and multiple teaching/mentorship accolades. His work emphasizes inclusive education, innovation ecosystems, and preparing engineers for leadership through service.
