Prof. Amit Gefen is a faculty member at Tel Aviv University in the Department of Bio-Medical Engineering within the Fleischman Faculty of Engineering. He leads the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Lab, focusing on experimental and computational analysis of mechanical behavior in biological tissues, particularly in the context of musculoskeletal structures and disease development.
- Email: gefen@tauex.tau.ac.il
His research integrates biomechanics with computational modeling to study tissue adaptation, damage mechanisms, and the design of medical interventions such as wound dressings, protective vests, and personal protective equipment (PPE). The lab employs advanced simulation techniques to enhance surgical planning and investigate biomechanical responses in clinical scenarios.
Prof. Gefen has edited several influential books in biomechanics and wound care, including titles published by Springer and Elsevier. His work has practical applications in military injury prevention, chronic wound management, and biomedical engineering innovations.
Current advisees include Ph.D. candidates Adi Lustig, Alexey Orlov, Maayan Lustig, and Lea Peko, who have contributed to studies on:
- 3D shape-conformation of wound dressings
- Negative pressure wound therapy mechanics
- Protective armor efficacy
- PPE-induced facial skin damage
He is affiliated with the Center for Biomedical Engineering at Tel Aviv University and has published extensively in books, book chapters, and peer-reviewed journals.
