Prof. Rami Haj-Ali, Nathan Cummings Professor of Mechanics at Tel Aviv University, is a leading academic in the School of Mechanical Engineering within the Fleischman Faculty of Engineering. With a career spanning over 25 years, he has pioneered research in multiscale modeling of composite materials, computational biomechanics, and machine learning applications in structural analysis.
- Education: BSc (Technion), MSc (Tel Aviv University), PhD (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)
- Prior Affiliation: Georgia Institute of Technology (1997-2010)
His research focuses on nonlinear mechanical behavior of composites, damage/fracture mechanics, and biomechanics of cardiovascular systems. He has developed innovative micromechanical models and artificial neural network-based material models that bridge microstructural properties to macro-scale performance.
Key scientific contributions include the Parametric High-Fidelity Generalized Method of Cells (PHFGMC) framework and advanced fluid-structure interaction models for aortic valves. His work has attracted funding from NSF, NASA, European Union FP7, and industry leaders like Edwards Lifesciences and Lockheed Martin.
- Scientific Awards: Chester P. Siess Award, NSF CAREER, Maof Fellowship, Marie Curie Fellowship, Nathan Cummings Chair
Currently advising 5 PhD and 10 MSc students, Prof. Haj-Ali's group develops computational tools for composite materials and patient-specific cardiovascular models. Recent work includes AI-enhanced surrogate models for composite impact analysis and biomimetic soft composites for medical applications.
