Dr. Amirabbas Mofidi is an occupational health and safety (OHS) researcher specializing in the economic aspects of health policy. He is an Associate Member at the School of Occupational and Public Health, part of Toronto Metropolitan University’s Faculty of Community Services. His work focuses on integrating economic tools to inform OHS policymaking, with expertise in cost-of-illness analysis, cost-benefit analyses, and disability-related research. Dr. Mofidi holds a PhD from Tarbiat Modares University, completed in collaboration with the Institute for Work Health (IWH) and the Occupational Cancer Research Centre (OCRC).
Currently, he serves as a research advisor in the Strategic and Service Policy Branch of Employment and Social Development Canada, analyzing microdata and survey datasets to inform policy decisions on work and disability. Previously, he conducted post-doctoral research at the Institute for Work and Health, collaborating with organizations such as Cancer Care Ontario and EU-OSHA. His research evaluates the economic burden of occupational cancers and interventions in sectors like construction.
Dr. Mofidi emphasizes the importance of economic perspectives in OHS recommendations, advocating for monetized cost-benefit analyses to support policy decisions. He is available to supervise Occupational and Public Health MSc students starting in 2025-2026.
