Amir H. Hoveyda is a Professor of Chemistry and holder of the Patricia and Joseph T. '49 Vanderslice Millennium Chair at Boston College. He earned his B.A. from Columbia University and Ph.D. from Yale University. His research focuses on catalysis and synthesis, including catalyst design, reaction mechanisms, and complex molecule total synthesis. Notable contributions include pioneering work in olefin metathesis and enantioselective organic synthesis.
- Affiliations: Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences, Chemistry Department
- Research Interests: Catalytic processes, drug discovery, and mechanistic studies
His lab develops efficient chiral catalysts for enantiomerically pure compounds and explores transformations like conjugate additions and metathesis. Key awards include the Yamada-Koga Prize (2010), American Chemical Society Awards (2014, 2020), and the Eni Award (2014).
Recent publications highlight advancements in Z/E-selective metathesis, indole alkaloid scaffolds, and click chemistry innovations. Collaborations with groups at UIUC and Pittsburgh leverage AI and molecular dynamics for drug discovery.
