Prof. Dr. Amir Fahmi is a Professor at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics, Hochschule Rhein-Waal (Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences). He holds interdisciplinary expertise in bio/chemistry and materials science, with research spanning nanostructured materials, electrospinning, and biomedical applications (e.g., tissue engineering, antimicrobial scaffolds). He leads a multidisciplinary research group currently focused on projects such as Nano-SHIELD (European Defense Fund) and FABIOCOM (BMBF).
Prof. Fahmi completed his education and early research at TU Dresden and the Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research. He later established his research group at the University of Nottingham (UK) as a Senior Research Fellow. His work has generated over 100 peer-reviewed publications, five patents, and international collaborations across Europe, China, and the Americas.
Research Interests: His group pioneers hybrid nanomaterials via self-assembly and electrospinning, with applications in:
- Biomedicine: Implantable triboelectric nanogenerators, bone regeneration scaffolds, wound healing bandages.
- Sustainability: CO₂ capture/conversion nanofibers, pollutant removal.
- Advanced Materials: MXene-based photothermal fibers, smart 3D platforms.
Awards & Recognition:
- Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) for innovative nanotechnology teaching methods.
- Referee for major journals (Wiley, Springer, Elsevier, ACS) and funding bodies (EPSRC, Royal Society).
Advising & Projects: He mentors doctoral researchers (e.g., Dr. Nirwan, Dr. Altangerel) and leads grants including EU COST Action TD0802 and Innovation China-UK. His lab develops nano-enabled solutions for healthcare (e.g., battery-free pacemakers, antiviral masks) in collaboration with institutions across Europe.
