Amine Choukou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Manitoba, where he leads innovative research in digital health and rehabilitation technologies. He is also affiliated with the Centre on Aging, Riverview Health Centre, and the Quebec Rehabilitation Research Network (REPAR).
His educational background includes a PhD in Human Kinetics from Université Paris-Saclay (2013), an MSc in Motor Control and Perception (2009), and a BSc in Human Kinetics (2006), all from the same institution. He completed postdoctoral training supported by Fonds de Recherche en Santé, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and Knowledge Translation Canada.
Dr. Choukou's research focuses on integrating artificial intelligence, at-home rehabilitation, and AgeTech to develop accessible, user-friendly interventions that improve healthcare access—especially for rural and underserved populations. His work advances digital health literacy, telerehabilitation, and eHealth solutions in geriatric care, emphasizing usability and patient autonomy.
His scientific contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Gerry McDole Professorship and the Deborah Freund Paper Award. He is an elected Full Member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society.
He actively mentors graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, fostering a collaborative research environment grounded in accountability and innovation. His Rehabilitation Technologies Lab (RTLab.ca) develops smart, real-world solutions such as the 'smart glove' for remote hand therapy. Dr. Choukou is also committed to medical education, promoting active learning and real-world applications in his teaching.
