Amina Zarrugh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at Texas Christian University's AddRan College of Liberal Arts. She holds a Ph.D., MA, and BA in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin, with a dual undergraduate focus on Government. Her research interests span gender studies, political sociology, social movements, race & ethnicity, religion, and North African sociopolitical dynamics. She is affiliated with multiple programs including Middle East Studies, Political Sociology, Social Movements, Race & Class, and Gender & Sexuality.
Dr. Zarrugh's work critically examines state mechanisms of disappearance, family mobilization strategies, and the intersection of race, law, and global politics. Notable themes include genetic racialization, the sociological implications of ancestry testing, and post-conflict activism in Libya. Her publications also address Islamophobia affecting Latino communities and gender equity in Tunisian constitutional reforms following the Arab Spring.
She teaches courses on Gender Politics, Introductory Sociology, Political Sociology, and the Sociology of Race and Racism.
