Professor Amina Memon is a Professor and Chair of Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London, leading the interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Emotion and Law (CSEL). Her research focuses on cognitive techniques in police investigations, memory, decision-making, and credibility assessment, with global collaborations in Brazil, Germany, the Netherlands, North America, and Finland. She is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, Association for Psychological Science, and Royal Society of Arts.
Her work emphasizes improving forensic interviewing practices for vulnerable populations (children, seniors) and has influenced national policies. Prof. Memon serves as an expert witness in civil/criminal cases involving memory and historic abuse, sits on the Netherlands Register of Court Experts, and contributes to the Anti-Torture Initiative. She also engages in community work via roles in Women’s Health and Family Services, Asylum Aid, and a community arts project addressing social isolation.
Key research themes include trauma’s impact on memory, AI in asylum systems, and cross-cultural investigative practices. Recent publications (2023-2024) address AI ethics in legal contexts, trauma in criminal justice, and child interviewing protocols. Awards include the ESRC Impact Prize (2017) and Asian Women of Achievement (2016).
