Amin Taha

Amin Taha BA (Hons) DipArch RIBA, born in Berlin and based in London, serves as Chairperson at GROUPWORK and teaches a vertical studio (ADS5 - Joining, Binding & Completing – What Do You Mean?) in the Architecture MA program at the Royal College of Art's School of Architecture.

His research centers on narrative ownerships and ethical criteria for architectural languages, examining how architectural expression is controlled within Semper's framework that all 'products' of applied arts originate from the 'process' of 'joining, binding and completing'. His work has received EU Sustainability funding (2005) for research on lower-cost housing production and Italian Government funding (2014) for collaborative research with Italian stonemasons on waste stone utilization.

Dr. Taha's publications reveal a consistent exploration of architectural theory, sustainability, and education, with recent works including 'Exploring, Building Completing' (2021) and 'Stone' (2019). His research demonstrates a sophisticated integration of historical understanding with contemporary sustainable practices, particularly evident in his stone construction research and 'The New Stone Age' exhibition.

GROUPWORK, under his leadership, has achieved remarkable recognition including two RIBA Stirling Prize shortlists (2017, 2021), an EU Mies prize shortlist (2019), and multiple RIBA regional and National awards. The firm has also won architectural competitions spanning diverse project types from private residences to infrastructure and masterplanning across 2003-2019.

His extensive exhibition history includes 'The New Stone Age' at The Building Centre (2019/2020) and eight Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions (2021-2003), showcasing his sustained contribution to architectural discourse and practice over nearly two decades.
