معرفی
Amiko Uchida is an Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Utah. Her research focuses on the intersection of mucosal immunity, host-microbe interactions, and type 2 immunity in the context of eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs), particularly eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE).
- Developed a novel in vitro assay to study eosinophil differentiation.
- Utilizes mouse models, patient biospecimens, and population datasets to investigate environmental, genetic, and immunological factors in EGIDs.
- Active in clinical-translational research linking basic science to healthcare outcomes, including disease prevalence, cardiovascular risk, and societal costs.
Research Areas:
Her work spans basic, translational, and population-level research, with a focus on:
- Type 2 immunity regulation by IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, and IL-33.
- Eosinophil biology in health (tissue homeostasis) and disease (EGIDs).
- Diet-microbiota-immune interactions in gastrointestinal mucosal integrity.
Publications:
Her recent articles highlight multidisciplinary approaches to EoE, including endoscopic drug trials (dupilumab, benralizumab), single-cell mapping of esophageal tissues, and epidemiological links between EoE and other allergic/autoimmune conditions.
Education:
• B.S. from Weber State University
• M.D. from the University of Utah
Collaborative Efforts:
Dr. Uchida contributes to clinical tool development (e.g., SAFE-T colonoscopy evaluation) and public health policy discussions (e.g., parental leave for fellows).
