Amie Wilkinson is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Chicago. Her research focuses on smooth dynamical systems, exploring the interplay between dynamics, geometry, topology, and algebra. She holds a Dickson Professorship and is affiliated with the Department of Mathematics. Her work addresses fundamental questions in partial hyperbolicity, ergodicity, and chaotic systems, with notable contributions to the understanding of geodesic flows and group actions. She leads an interdisciplinary NSF-funded project linking dynamics to particle accelerator design.
Wilkinson's research interests include the mechanisms of chaotic behavior, the ergodic hypothesis, and the rigidity of group actions. She has pioneered studies on the Weil-Petersson metric's geodesic flows and the generic ergodicity of diffeomorphisms. Awards include the Levi L. Conant Prize (2019) and membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2021). She advises students like Clark Butler and collaborates widely, contributing to both pure and applied dynamics.
Her recent work emphasizes centralizer rigidity, transitivity in dynamical systems, and the structure of invariant foliations. Grants and collaborations span interdisciplinary initiatives, fostering connections between mathematics and physics.
