Amelle Zaïr is a Senior Lecturer in Advanced Photonics and Head of Ultrafast Laser Sciences and Attosecond Physics at King’s College London’s Department of Physics. She holds a MSc in laser-matter interaction from Orsay-Ecole Polytechnique (France) and a PhD from the University of Bordeaux (2006), awarded with highest distinction for work on attosecond pulse production. Her research focuses on ultrafast laser technologies, attosecond pulse generation, and quantum path interferometry. She leads the AttosecondPhysics@King's initiative and is involved in EU initiatives like Laserlab-Europe and ELI-ALPS.
Educations: MSc in Laser-Matter Interaction (Orsay-Ecole Polytechnique, France), PhD in Physics (University of Bordeaux, 2006).
Research interests include developing high-repetition-rate Yb lasers, characterizing attosecond pulses via high harmonic generation, and studying ultra-fast dynamics in atoms/molecules using quantum path interferometry. Her work explores applications in photonics, quantum technologies, and nanomaterials. Recent contributions include pioneering attosecond control of matter under strong fields and advancing attosecond pump-probe techniques for studying molecular systems and condensate materials.
Awards: EPSRC CAF Fellowship (2011), PhD Distinction (2006). Active in grants and leadership, including building her research group at Imperial College London (2011–202?). Advising and collaborations involve EU-funded projects and academic promotions within King’s Natural & Mathematical Sciences faculty.
Labs/Teams: Leads the AttosecondPhysics@King's initiative; contributes to the Photonics & Nanotechnology Group and King’s Advanced Light Technology facilities. Involved in lab openings, such as the 2019 photonics/nanofabrication labs at Strand Campus.
