Dr. Amélie Addison is a Lecturer in Music at Northumbria University's Department of Humanities, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. She specializes in 18th-century music, particularly the works of William Shield, and has conducted extensive research on traditional music and its cultural implications. Addison holds a PhD from the University of Leeds (2023) and has been awarded prestigious fellowships, including the British Society for Eighteenth Century Studies Fellowship (2023/24) and a postdoctoral fellowship at Leeds Arts & Humanities Research Institute.
Her research focuses on Shield's compositional techniques, his Border heritage influences, and the interplay between music and national identity. She actively engages in public outreach, such as the Be Curious festival, and teaches modules in Music Theory, Music History, and Music Education. Addison's work bridges academic scholarship with performance, reflecting her background in baroque cello and ensemble tutelage.
