Amelia Jones is the Robert A. Day Professor of Art and Design and Vice Dean of Faculty and Research at the Roski School of Art & Design, University of Southern California. She is a prominent curator and scholar specializing in contemporary art, performance studies, and queer feminist theory. Her work bridges academic research with curatorial practice, addressing themes of gender, sexuality, and institutional critique.
Her research interests include queer theory’s intersection with performance art, feminist art historiography, and the socio-political dimensions of visual culture. Notable publications include In Between Subjects (2021), analyzing queer performance since the 1950s, and Queer Communion: Ron Athey (2020), which was honored by the New York Times. She co-edited landmark volumes such as Otherwise: Imagining Queer Feminist Art Histories (2016) and led the On Trans/Performance special issue (2016).
Current projects address neoliberalism and structural racism in art institutions and involve curating a major exhibition of Ken Gonzales-Day’s work. Her scholarly contributions emphasize critical genealogies of art practice and systemic inequities in cultural production.
