Amelia Acker is an Associate Professor at the School of Communication & Information (SC&I) at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She previously held a faculty position at the iSchool, University of Texas at Austin. Her work focuses on the emergence, standardization, and preservation of information, particularly how data archives and infrastructures shape long-term cultural memory and data sovereignty.
Her research has been funded by major organizations including the Institute for Museum and Library Services, National Science Foundation, Sloan Foundation, Ford Foundation, and the ACM History and Archiving Fellowship. She is the author of the upcoming book Archiving Machines (MIT Press, November 2025), which traces the origins of data archiving practices and their impact on modern data governance.
