Ameer Choudrie is a Senior Lecturer in Acting and Programme Leader for the Foundation (Cert HE) Acting and Foundation (Cert HE) Musical Theatre courses at the Guildford School of Acting (GSA), part of the Faculty of Arts, Business and Social Sciences at the University of Surrey. He is also recognized as a Cultural Intelligence Champion and previously served as the Ethnicity, Identity and Culture Champion from 2021 to 2024.
His educational background includes a DipHE, BA (QTS), and MA, reflecting a strong foundation in both performance and education. Ameer has contributed significantly to outreach and inclusion in the arts sector through roles at institutions such as the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), National Youth Theatre, The Old Vic, and Talawa Theatre Company.
Ameer's research and professional interests center on promoting equity and representation in the performing arts. He focuses on dismantling systemic barriers through workshops on unconscious bias, cultural diversity, and anti-racism, delivered across the UK arts sector with Inc Arts and other organizations. His work emphasizes widening access to actor training for underrepresented communities and fostering inclusive pedagogical practices.
Although no publications are listed, his public engagement—particularly on the University of Surrey’s 'Surrey Speaks' podcast—highlights his commitment to addressing uncomfortable truths in the acting industry and advocating for a more representative theatre landscape.
Ameer has also been involved in community sports development as a UEFA-qualified football coach and FA Community Champion, supporting grassroots football for underrepresented communities. However, this role is supplementary to his academic and artistic work.
