Amee Manges is a Professor at the University of British Columbia in the School of Population and Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, with cross-affiliations in Microbiology and Immunology. Her research integrates molecular epidemiology and public health to investigate the human microbiome's role in disease development and health maintenance using next-generation sequencing and metagenomics.
Her research interests include:
- Microbiome dynamics in human health
- Molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases
- Public health applications of microbiome research
- Gut microbiome interactions with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer
- Sinonasal microbiome disorders and therapeutic interventions
- Microbiome transplantation therapies
Dr. Manges leads the Manges Lab, which actively supervises doctoral candidates in Population and Public Health. Current research projects include investigations into the gut microbiome's relationship with female breast cancer (Ash Larnder) and sinonasal microbiome transplants as treatment modalities (Sandeep Gill). The lab recruits MSc and PhD students specializing in epidemiology, molecular microbiology, bioinformatics, and biostatistics, with Freddy Francis recently completing his doctoral degree.
